The more the merrier

“What are you talking about? I am Andrea!”

“No, I am Andrea!”

Just as John feared, Brent had spent too long as a clone of his sister and now was beginning to think like her. They had used the spellbook as a joke. Brent intended to pretend to be his sister and ruin her reputation. It was hard imitating a girl at first, but as the day wore on it felt more and more natural. By lunch time he had her personality and mannerisms down pat. John was a little worried, but Brent just blew off his concerns. He was in control – totally!

In the afternoon John had lost track of Brent. The plan was for Brent to return to John’s house that night so they could use the book to change him back. But Brent never showed up. So John went to his house, spellbook in hand, and found the new identical twins each claiming to be the real Andrea.

Now John wasn’t sure what to do. He didn’t want to change the wrong person and doom his friend to life as his sister. But how could he tell who was who?

“I need to think about this,” said John.

“It’s late. Why don’t you spend the night?”

John nodded eagerly. That was a good idea. Surely if he observed the twins long enough he could see some glimmer of his old friend in one of them.

But for some reason after only a few hours he felt very tired and went into a deep sleep.

Andrea – the real Andrea – smiled as she watched John sleep. It seemed like it took forever for the sleeping pills to take effect. But now that the fool was under she could look through the spellbook without interference.

Andrea wasn’t an idiot. She knew that the other girl was her brother, and she could have convinced John of that easily. But the truth was that she liked Brent much better as a sister than an annoying little brother. She wanted to keep him that way – permanently. The only problem was that nosey do-gooder John knew the truth. But with a little help from the spellbook she could fix that.

After all, if one identical sister was good, two would be better.
