Passion Pill

I was trolling around the mall with my friend Mark. We noticed a new store that had popped up right off the food court, Spells R Us. I elbowed Mark and asked if he wanted to check it out.

“I don’t know, Brian, look at the place. It looks like it’d be full of nothing but gag gifts that are a rip off at a quarter the price.”

“Whatever man, I’m gonna check it out.”

I went inside and was the only sole in the store. The old man behind the counter greeted me and said “Let me guess, I have a knack for these sort of things. You’re looking for something to help with your lovelife?” Yeah, great guess. Must be magic. Surely it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that I’m hanging out at the mall on a Saturday afternoon without a girl in sight.

“Yeah sure, I guess. Why, can you help?”

“Certainly, take this.” He handed me a bottle with a single pink pill. “Just take the pill, and the next person you see will be love at first sight. Now, that’ll be $14.32.”

I reached into my pocket, and somehow had exactly that much. “Are you sure you want to hurry my out? The place is pretty dead. I could browse around a little bit more.”

“I thank you for your concern, but no. People seldom need more than one of my remedies.”

I walked out of the shop, still a little weirded out by the encounter. “Well mean, what’d you end up getting?” Mark asked, eyeing the bag in my hand.

“Oh, something he said would help my love life. I was the only guy in there, I felt really weird leaving empty handed.”

“Haha, he probably just sold you herbal viagra! Anyway, I’m hungry. Want to venture over to that taco truck we saw on the way in?”

I agreed and we headed out and got our food. I decided fuck it, I’ll try to pill. I popped it in my mouth and washed it down with my soda. “Seriously? That’s hilarious, I didn’t think you’d actually do it. Do you feel any different.”

“Oh yeah, tons. I can already tell there are swarms of supermodels back at my place waiting.” I joked, glancing up. Our eyes met, and I felt a cold wave pass over me.

“Well Brittney? Did it do anything?” Mark was apparently still waiting on a response. I was shocked to look down and realize I was in the body of a quite cute young girl. I was even more shocked by the fact that Mark seemed completely oblivious to any changes.

I looked up at him, and felt a flutter in my stomach. “Uh, not really. I think I just wasted fifteen bucks. If I’m gonna get my love life back in order, I’ve got to do it myself.” I then proceeded to sit there, smiling like an idiot for an uncomfortably long time.

“Yeah I guess… Hey, are you doing alright.”

“Yeah, I’m just wondering, how come we never dated?”

Mark choked on his drink. Gathering his composure, he started “Uh, well, we were, you’re…”

I laughed and grinned even wider. “That’s alright, I don’t know either.” I ran a finger down his arm, letting my hand come to a stop resting over his. “Pick me up at eight tonight?”
