If there is one thing Lorenzo Donati did not lack, it was certainly ambition. His unprecedented rise to the top of Venetian politics was fueled by that most basic of human vices–greed. He wanted money, wanted power, wanted the world for himself, and he was willing to do just about anything to get it.
Feel the Music
Every July, the Palm Parkway Hotel underwent a transformation. Most of the time it served exclusively as a cheap option for poor tourists who couldn’t afford any of the other pricier hotels on San Gabriel’s famous Palm Parkway strip. However, July was the date of the nationally-renowned San Gabriel Music Festival, a gathering place for the biggest musical acts in the country. Thus, the Palm Parkway Hotel would see its clientele change from lower-class families to young, virile college kids, their heads full of music but their wallets not full of much at all. Naturally, the cheap Palm Parkway Hotel was the perfect option.
Clubbing
When Tyler went out on the town, he didn’t go home until he got some pussy, and sometimes, on a slow night he needed a little help. He wasn’t talking roofies–the prospect of fucking an unresponsive body creeped him out, and besides, he wasn’t about to do anything illegal. No, the stuff that he used technically didn’t exist (at least not officially) so there was no legislation against it. It was a win-win situation all the way.
Asiaq’s Curse
As it turns out, there are many things passed down through blood other than genetics. If one’s family was the disrespectful sort (especially when it came to spurned deities) one might incur wrath of some long forgotten god and have a blood curse placed upon one’s entire bloodline. When Richard Mann accidentally desecrated an ancient Inuit burial ground, for example, he doomed every second son in his bloodline to a curse from the rain goddess Asiaq. Since it was manly pride that led to Mann’s callous disregard for the dead, it was manhood that Asiaq would take from him: whenever rain touched the cursed one’s skin, he would become a woman until rain touched it once again.
Low on Cash
Cash was tight, but what else was new? Tom’s criminal record made it hard for him to hold down a job, and there were only so many times the sperm bank would allow paid donations. There had to be some other way for him to make money.
Failing Grade
Mr. Waller should have been mad at what his students had done to him…furious, in fact. But he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. He understood perfectly well why they chose to punish him–he was known for being easily the most difficult, uncompromising, and all-around mean teacher in the whole eleventh grade. Naturally, when given the opportunity to inflict revenge upon him, they must have jumped at the chance.
